This week our Torah reading begins with this command spoken by the Divine to Moses:
“Speak to the People of Israel and they will take for me an offering from each person whose heart moves them you will take My offering.”
[Exodus 25:2]
We will learn more deeply about this fascinating verse this coming Shabbat during our Spirituality Oriented service on Friday evening, and during Torah study and Shabbat Morning worship on Saturday.
My offering to you is that this verse recognizes the importance of the individual role in the communal project. The Hebrew moves from the plural collective, “the People of Israel”, to the profoundly singular individual, “each person whose heart”.
It is this way with our community. Each and every single one of us makes a unique offering of care and compassion that helps lead us all to completion together.
Thank you, all of you,
for what you bring. Every one of you makes our community into a better “us”.
Wishing everyone a warmth and safety on an icy day,
Jonathan
