As we celebrate Passover in a most unusual manner – at a safe distance from one another – so we read about God telling Moses, “You cannot see My face, for no one can see My face and live” (Exodus 33:20).
We acknowledge the mysterious, amazing, and terrifying power of God at this season, recalling that God used such power in our favor to bring us out of Egypt.
The universe is nonetheless a power that we must contend with for good and for ill. We took precautions to preserve our lives in Egypt, following strict rules and staying inside when death came down upon us.
Today we do the same.
We pray together for health and safety, especially for those who are suffering from this illness, and for those who are caring for and sustaining both the sick, and the entirety of our society.
We hold onto hope for a time, may it come soon, when we can establish another new normal that includes us being together again.
