When Moses addressed the Israelites before entering the Land of Israel, he reassured them with two ideas about God in two verses:
Adonai your God, who goes before you, will wage-war for you, like all that God did with you in Egypt, before your eyes, and in the wilderness, where you saw how Adonai your God carried you as a man carries his child, on all the way that you went upon, until coming to this place. (Deuteronomy 1:30-31)
There is God the warrior and God the caring parent.
The Torah describes God as a way of teaching us models for our own behavior. We must fight for our principles and care for those in need.
As we strive to do better in these challenging days we need to find strength in the ideals that have guided us for generations.
