As Rosh Hashanah approaches this coming Sunday evening, and Monday, September 9-10, we are called to come together by the Shofar on our Yom T’ruah, the Day of Blasting.
This Shabbat, we read the words of Deuteronomy, “You stand this day, all of you, before Adonai, your God…” [Deuteronomy 29:9] and we read the words from Isaiah 62:1:
“For the sake of Zion, I will not be silent, for the sake of Jerusalem, I will not be still…”
This season requires us to make noise, to stand up, to proclaim who we are and what our values are about.
Make some noise and bring people together as Jews around our holy days – in synagogue, in our homes, or at Canalside for Tashlich and Havdalah this month.
Make some noise and bring people together around our values – however you declare them, use them to find middle ground and share who we are.
The High Holy Day Season demands we make sacred sounds that summon us deep in our hearts and minds, that arouse our souls and connect us to our neighbors.
Wishing all of you a New Year filled with blessings of wholeness and health, family, friends and community, and well-being for all,
Jonathan
