As Deuteronomy begins this week, we also commemorate the Ninth of Av, and so gather twice on Saturday, July 21.
In the morning we have learning and praying for Shabbat (Torah Study at 9:15 AM, and Shabbat Morning Services at 10:30 AM).
In the evening, for our Ninth of Av observance, at 7:00 PM, we reflect on how to connect with people across the divide of opinion using the thoughts of Dr. Jonathan Haidt and his book The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion as a catalyst for discussion.
The Book of Deuteronomy is all about words that matter – in Hebrew we call the Book of Deuteronomy “D’varim”, which means “words”.
Let us figure out how to use our words to connect, and connect better, with understanding and caring.
I commit to connecting with all of you, particularly Temple Beth Zion people that I have not yet met, by meeting with at least two new people per week starting in August. I hope to meet at least one hundred Temple Beth Zion families with whom I have yet to spend time in the next year. If you have not yet connected with me in a meaningful way, please contact Jennelle (716-836-6565) and get a time for coffee, lunch, a visit to your home, or another way to meet.
Wishing everyone a good week,
Jonathan
