Excerpts of statements of support for Steve Jabar below:
Tom Ridge
First Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Former Governor of Pennsylvania
November 11, 2015
“…While I was serving as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Steve was the first, if not one of the first members of my team, to deploy to Iraq to support the US mission subsequent to the 2003 invasion. He brought a unique set of skills and experiences to our team…
…Steve is passionate about the need to bring peace and stability to the Middle East and particularly to Iraq. I don’t think we can underestimate the value of his knowledge of the country and region…I believe that any effort to defeat the terrorists within Iraq and eliminate the destructive influence of the Iranian government …should be supported…”

“…Steve Jabar served as a… culture advisor to the Task Force. He quickly became an invaluable member of the team amid increasing complexity of operations… His contacts in Iraq were invaluable… Often Steve went well beyond his assigned duties to assist in the tasks assigned, often placing himself at risk. I admired Steve’s passion and patriotism for Iraq and the United States. Simply stated, with Steve we made progress that would not have been possible. I trusted Steve’s judgement, character and integrity completely.
The case has been ongoing for more than ten years. Steve’s ability to continue his remarkable work in support of the Department of Defense and the people of Iraq has been impacted by the length of this process. We need men like Steve Jabar to see a successful conclusion for the people of Iraq.
…. Steve’s security clearance should be restored so he can continue his much-needed assistance.”

“…by the time I left in July of 2006, I saw Steve for who he is- perhaps the bravest man I have ever met in two wars and a true American patriot who saved countless lives—COUNTLESS- both American servicemen and innocent Iraqis. It is perhaps a failing on our part that in Iraq that we sometimes
did not act on Jabar’s information sooner. More lives would have been saved. He understood the culture and while he has a penchant for hyperbole, he was almost always right about Iraq…
…It is my solemn belief that innocent people are dead because of this “pretext” investigation. While that saddens me, I understand due process required a thorough investigation. But that due process must also stand on the integrity of the government officials. This isn’t a game of liar’s poker. This is a man’s life, a hero’s life. a patriot’s life that they have ruined. It may have started out on good faith but that ship sailed years ago when they stopped investigating exculpatory evidence and continued persecuting a man they now know they had mistakenly thought to be a terrorist…
…Steve Jabar has lost everything. This is no longer about justice. In 14 years Steve has suffered many times more than if he was actually guilty of defrauding somebody. The AUSA and JTTF absolutely KNOW and have known for years that Steve is not a terrorist and never was. It seems this is now just about protecting individuals and institutions from owning up to their mistakes who would rather put the final nail in the coffin of a hero and patriot than admit that they were wrong. They are willingly trading his entire life to avoid a deserved blemish on their careers…”

“… As a former Peshmerga commander and Middle-East expert, Jabar well understood the consequences of a potential invasion. He correctly predicted what has now proven to be true: a complete melt-down of the Middle-East, the destruction of the fine balance of power between Iran and Iraq, a rallying call for Muslim extremists, and a severe increase of terrorism in Europe and North America. Furthermore, if Jabar had been heeded, 4,489 American service-members would still be alive and another 30,000+ would not have suffered combat injuries, not counting Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Regional stability in the Middle-East is now non-existent. Unfortunately, rather than being listened to, Jabar’s outspoken warnings would eventually result in Buffalo-based federal agents setting out to prove that Steve Jabar was an enemy of America. Nothing could have been further from the truth…”

“…Steve’s role was serving as the senior…bicultural advisor to the entire task force. In this capacity, he was responsible for advising …. Commanding General on all cultural nuances when working with detainees, Iraqi military, and Iraqi government officials… But Steve consistently went well beyond the scope of his responsibilities in volunteering to assist on any mission, no matter the risk… He earned the absolute trust and confidence of the entire leadership of the task force, and each of us trusted him with our lives…
…Steve was always very passionate about our mission because he saw it as a key element in helping Iraq establish a functional government and judiciary … He was also passionate about the radio station he helped establish to promote women’s rights and equality…
… Completely loyal and trustworthy, I never had a reason to doubt anything Steve told me (as a 31-year career Army Infantry officer, I do not trust people, by nature or by profession, and am extremely skeptical until they prove their reliability). He was dedicated to the US cause and efforts to establish a representative form of government in Iraq and to defeat the insurgency. “
