Parshat Bereshit raises some of the most profound questions dealing with the existence of the universe and humans’ role within it. Let’s take the story of Adam and Eve which is perplexing on so many levels. Here just three questions that can serve as a gateway to a deeper understanding of the narrative. I would be happy to hear YOUR thoughts on the questions. Please share them with me at oribergman@gmail.com and I’ll address them on Shabbat.
Question #1: Why would G-d choose to start the Torah with such a tragic story?
Question #2: When you tell a child, “Don’t touch that crystal vase,” why would you add, “if you do…,” which opens up the possibility that they will break the rules. Why set Adam and Eve up for failure?
Question #3: If God himself spoke to us, directly, wouldn’t we have some self-discipline and take it to heart. How could it be that Adam and Eve, within an hour of God speaking to them, disobey Him?
Would love to hear from you,
Shabbat Shalom
