This week’s Haftarah from Isaiah reads:
Thus said God, Adonai, Creator of the heavens, Who spreads out the expanse of the earth and all that comes out upon it, Who gave breath to the people upon it, and spirit to those who walk upon it: I, Adonai, have summoned you with justice, and I have grasped you by the hand. I crafted you, and appointed you a covenant people, a light of nations – opening eyes deprived of light, rescuing prisoners from confinement, from the dungeon those who sit in darkness. [Isaiah 42:5-7]
Isaiah comes to explain our connection to the story of Creation that we read in Torah, in the opening chapters of Genesis.
We are called to participate in Creation as actors of justice, bringers of light, and liberators of the oppressed. This is our purpose.
Creation speaks to us. The very fabric of reality asks us to be good stewards to all of creation, and agents of justice and integrity to all humanity.
We have come through our holy days of introspection and vulnerability to start afresh – renewed in our energy and commitment to enhance the world through our energies.
Wishing everyone a wonderful week of creation, followed by a Shabbat of stopping, reflecting, and refreshing,
