That dramatic and cinematic moment, our ancestors crossing the Sea of Reeds, occurs in this week’s Torah reading.
We often recount the Midrash that the waters did not part until one person named Nachshon walked forward all the way into the Sea up until he couldn’t breathe through his nose.
Jewish traditions remind us that all of us can be our own Nachshon and that we are never alone. We all have seas to cross, depths to struggle through, and we are all in it together. Nachshon had the entire People of Israel behind him when he walked into the sea, and we have one another.
